BREATHITT COUNTY WATER DISTRICT GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW WATERLINE
JACKSON, KY, APRIL 6, 2006: Judge Executive Lewis H. Warrix joined Breathitt County Water District Officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the KY 52/KY 541 waterline project. The ceremony was held Wednesday at the project site in Jackson, KY.
With the potential to serve an additional 270 homes and three area schools, the project will add 16.3 miles of waterline, one pump station, one storage tank, and 23 fire hydrants. "This is the fourth construction project in our continuing efforts to provide drinking water to all Breathitt County Residents", Judge Warrix stated. The Breathitt County Water District has already installed approximately 21 miles of waterline, two pump stations, three water storage tanks and 15 fire hydrants during three prior projects. The water supply source for all four of these projects is the City of Jackson's new water treatment plant.
While pleased with the progress to date, Judge Warrix pledged to continue the District's efforts to reach all residents of Breathitt County, stating, "I want to continue to work hard toward our original objective and constantly keep applications in the hands of the funding agencies". Judge Warrix noted the efforts of Water District Chairman John Lester Smith, and the District's Board Members in obtaining 100% grant funding to the county, and recognized the work of Representative Teddy Edmons in securing this funding that will keep user rates lower than if loans had been required.
Project Engineer Paul D. Nesbitt, PE, LS, added, "I'm really proud that Nesbitt Engineering has been able to play an important role in providing technical guidance for these projects".
Participants in the groundbreaking ceremony included (pictured left to right): Breathitt County Judge Executive Lewis H. Warrix, Paul Nesbitt, PE, LS, President of Nesbitt Engineering, Inc., Breathitt County Water District Superintendent Shannon Moore, and Construction Observer Carlos Maggard of Nesbitt Engineering.
